Our client Wilson Lumber is a building materials supplier from Huntsville, Alabama. They were an already successful $80 million company when they hired us to redesign their website. Most of their business comes from their top 30 customers, so they were not necessarily looking for new business, but were looking to improve how they are perceived and interacted with digitally. They didn’t have a good web presence and were having a hard time engaging with their audience online.

Even though I was part of most of the process, I was involved the most in the visual aspect of this project. I was tasked with the creation of the wireframes, style guide, designs and prototype. During this phase, I received feedback from both our internal team and the client, and made necessary edits before getting the client’s final approval—first on the wireframes, then on the style guide, and finally on the designs and prototype. Besides the normal website design process, I also designed twenty different icons for the website.

After the design phase was finalized, I made a technical specifications document for the development team. Once they were done developing the designs, I checked the staging site as part of our Quality Assurance process and gave them feedback so they would implement it before we presented it to the client.
